About the Authors

Nola J. Pender is a nursing theorist, academic, and author. She is also a professor emeritus of nursing at the University of Michigan. Pender created the Health Promotion Model and has been designated a living legend of the American Academy of Nursing. Her health promotion model theory was published for the first time back in 1982. Then, it was revised in 1996 and 2002. This theory is used for nursing education, research, and practice. It aims to help nurses in understanding factors that affect health-promoting behaviors.

There is not much information about the second author, Carolyn L. Murdaugh. It is only known that she is a professor emeritus at the University of Arizona College of Nursing. On the other hand, Mary Ann Parsons is the longest-serving dean at the University of South Carolina College of Nursing. But since she retires, she stays in the nursing field by working with fellow nurse leaders to revise the 7th and 8th editions of Health Promotion in Nursing Practice.
